LIV Golf Returns to Steyn City for Professional Golf Tournament Action in 2027

Bryson DeChambeau claimed victory at the inaugural LIV Golf tournament in South Africa, earning $4 million from the massive $30 million purse at Steyn City's prestigious course.

Nearly 90,000 spectators witnessed what officials called one of the biggest golf tournaments South Africa has seen in over two decades.

The Southern Guards GC, featuring Louis Oosthuizen, Dean Burmester, Branden Grace, and Charl Schwartzel, had the nation rallying behind them. The all-South African squad led by nine shots before falling just one stroke short to DeChambeau's Crushers team.

The stunning Steyn City venue in Johannesburg's north provided an unparalleled backdrop, with its 2,000-acre parkland estate showcasing luxury properties valued between R2.2 million and R60 million.

Following the overwhelming success, organizers immediately confirmed the tournament's return for April 22-25, 2027, with early-bird tickets already generating massive interest among golf enthusiasts nationwide.

Threads of Solidarity Exhibition Opens at Freedom Park in Pretoria

On December 1, 2025, Pretoria’s Freedom Park Heritage Site introduced the “Threads of Solidarity: European Support for the Struggle Against Apartheid” exhibition, marking over three decades of South African democracy.

This powerful collaboration between Freedom Park, the European Union Delegation, and EU embassies spotlights the vital backing European nations provided during the fight against apartheid.

Stretching across seven decades, the display interweaves stories of peace, resilience, and human rights shared by Europe and South Africa.

At the heart is a unique quilt-style installation, featuring 27 symbolic squares, each depicting a different EU member state’s contribution.

Highlights include Italy’s Reggio Emilia, a steadfast ally that sheltered anti-apartheid activists and forged bonds with the liberation movement.

Visitors can explore interactive maps and moving stories, immersing themselves in a movement that transcended borders.

The exhibition runs at Freedom Park until March 2026 before touring other South African cities.

South Africa to Print Ballot Papers for South Sudan's 2026 Elections

South Africa has pledged crucial support for South Sudan’s landmark general elections set for December 2026, offering to print ballot papers and provide essential electoral materials.

The commitment was made following high-level talks in Pretoria between President Cyril Ramaphosa and President Salva Kiir, where both stressed the need for credible, transparent elections in Africa’s newest nation.

President Kiir reaffirmed South Sudan’s dedication to holding elections as per the Revitalised Peace Agreement, but noted significant technical and logistical challenges ahead.

He appealed for international help, particularly in ensuring all ballot materials and voter registration needs are met.

President Ramaphosa responded by confirming South Africa’s readiness to supply both expertise and materials, aligning with wider African Union efforts to stabilize South Sudan’s democratic transition.

Discussions also addressed economic partnerships, with Kiir inviting South African investment in sectors like mining, tourism, and oil.

Both leaders concluded by strongly reaffirming their commitment to peace, development, and closer ties.
